Boosting accuracy for a forest inventory
Ireland’s State Forestry Board manages around 445,000 hectares of forest land. Staff regularly carry out a number of forest mapping tasks such as recording felled and planted areas.
The equipment they were using provided a 2-4m accuracy, which suited most of the fieldwork, however when faced with a project that required sub-metre positioning for the recording of field inventory plot geo-coordinates, they needed to get more accurate.
